Stress is a part of life. No matter what we do, there is no escaping it, especially when you are an adult. However, it doesn’t mean you have to absorb it. Too much stress could cause you mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression, which is something you would never want for yourself.

Many might think, “Oh, it’s just depression,” but it is not a simple situation. When one doesn’t know how to get out of it, it could lead to a lifetime of being lost, and worst to medical health issues like cancer and heart problems.

People, nowadays, have found several ways to manage stress, anxiety, and depression. Among these ways is traveling. People have adapted the YOLO (you only live once) mentality which has been a trend that’s why people have been searching all the continents to experience life.

Urban areas are becoming toxic, and we have to admit that the suffocation we experience causes different mental and emotional problems such as depression. It has caused people to feel hopeless and stuck, leading them to commit suicide. If seeing new places is beneficial to our mind then traveling is advisable for people with depression, but how can traveling help?

How Travelling Can Help With Depression:

  1. Breath Of Fresh Air

Depression can come from overwhelming worries, sadness, and stress, and these three happen when we are stuck in one situation for a long time that’s why traveling is very much advisable for people who are in a position where they think life has nothing more for them.

  1. Presentation Of Other Options

When you travel, you get to see the world, and you will realize that there is more to life than you thought. You begin to look at other options, and it wakes your sense of adventure. You tend to settle because you thought of the only option you have which is to stay where you are.

  1. New Learning

Traveling makes you learn about the places you visit. You meet new people and start to understand their culture. Depression may sometimes come from the lack of knowledge about the things around you which makes you focus on the negativity that is happening.

  1. Sense Of Gratitude

Traveling teaches you to be thankful, especially when you see and meet people who may have worse. It makes you feel grateful for all the things in your life, and you begin to realize that there is no reason for complaining.

  1. Sense Of Humility

Traveling teaches you to be humble by making you realize that the world does not revolve around you. Sometimes, people with depression feel so much for themselves that they absorb all the negativity, thinking they are the only person who faces difficulties. However, there is a thin line between self-pity and narcissism, to believe they don’t deserve to feel bad, and if they do, it’s too much.

Can traveling cure depression? Yes, no, or maybe. It all relies upon the severity of the condition, but one thing is for sure is that it helps in managing it. Traveling makes you relaxed and stress-free which is sometimes the most crucial thing you need – a break from all the toxicity of your daily life. De-stressing is achievable when you go to a peaceful and happy place where you can reflect.

Some say depression happens when we lack understanding of life like “why do we experience sorrow, grief, and pain?” We have to understand that these are all part of life, just as happiness is. Some also say that the feeling of sadness does not exist. Our emotions are the feelings we accumulated throughout our existence, and we “should” never be sad. We may be happier yesterday than today, but it doesn’t mean sadness.
